Muffin mix in a jar

Another super gift idea for any baker or reluctant baker.

This coudl be gifted as it is or combined with a wooden spoon, baking
trayand or muffin cases.

Recipe for the mix from GoodToKnow.co.uk – original post

  • 400g self-raising flour
  • 275g soft brown sugar
  • 40g cocoa
  • 2tsp baking powder
  • 100g chocolate chunks

  • 1l sterilised Kilner jar
  • Ribbon, to decorate

  1. Stir the baking powder into the self-raising flour and sieve to remove any lumps. Using a wooden spoon, carefully pour the flour into the bottom of the kilner jar. The flour needs to be tightly packed down in the bottom of the jar. To do this, hold the jar a few inches above your work surface and tap down onto the surface. Use the end of a rolling pin to pack the flour down even more tightly.
  2. Add the cocoa powder and use the end of your rolling pin to pack the layer of sugar down tightly.
  3. Add the soft brown sugar. You may find it easier to pour it in from a measuring jug. Use the end of your rolling pin to pack the layer of sugar down tightly.
  4. Add enough chocolate chunks to fill the jar right to the top. Replace the lid and seal and finish by tying a ribbon around the top of the jar.
